I’ll be needing extra coffee this morning!!

Want to experience an extreme adrenaline rush?? It’s easy – just have all of your smoke/CO detectors go off at about 3:30 in the morning.

Seriously. We have those combination smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detectors that all communicate with each other. If one goes off, they all do (otherwise I’d never hear the one down in the playroom from my bedroom). They also talk, which is a little creepy when it wakes you up in the middle of the night.

So at around 3:20 am this morning, the hubs and I awoke to piercing beeps and a man’s voice saying “Fire! Exit the house. Fire! Exit the house.”

I have never seen Big J move so fast. He flew downstairs and checked every corner of the house for smoke, fire, and any other danger.

Nothing.

We still have no idea what set them off. Perhaps the collection of cobwebs in the basement rafters may have something to do with it – I’ll be tackling those today. But it’s good to know that the system works – and that LJ will sleep through it even though we put one outside his door specifically to wake him up.

Me? I’ll be at Starbucks mainlining caffeine for the morning.

  1. I found out the hard way that cooking with peanut oil sets off the “smoke” sensor, even if the oil isn’t heated to the point of smoking.
