Blessed.

I had a “Norman Rockwell childhood” in an idyllic little Connecticut town, surrounded by friends and family just a short drive away.
While it took me a while to land in my chosen career, I had a lot of fun, meet some remarkable people, and learned a lot through some amazing life experiences getting there.
I met my wonderful husband in what some would call a twist of fate, but I believe to be Divine intervention. And together we have been blessed with an amazing son who makes every day an adventure and gives us both a reason to wake up with smiles on our faces.
And I have been blessed to be able to stay home with Little J and watch him become the little man who is emerging. When I was ready to go back to work, well maybe, maybe not..I just wasn’t sure…I was blessed with the perfect job that allows me the best of both worlds. I didn’t even know that a job like mine existed until I struck up a conversation with Amy at Gymboree one day. Again, Divine intervention.
And even on days like this, maybe especially on days like this, I am again reminded how truly blessed I am.
Blessed to have parents who relocated to be near me, live a mile away, and are able to watch Little J so Big J and I can get away, who don’t mind babysitting me so hubby can go back to work and not have to take vacation days which are earmarked for a Disney trip in November, and who run to Target to get my medicine.
Blessed to have a wonderful husband to hold my hand as the anesthesiologist tells me about the “Jackson juice” he is going to give me and what to expect. (No, I didn’t experience the euphoria that you’re supposed to get but I wasn’t too groggy when I woke up. Still, not the same as real sleep!). And to squeeze my other hand as a tear trickles down my cheek while the nurse tries for the fifth time to get my IV in. And to cater to all of my post-op whims (Can I have some Jello? no, I want applesauce, or, no, I’d rather have ice chips…)
And blessed with an amazing group of friends – both real and virtual. The former students offering to help out if I need them. The mommy friends offering to take Little J for a day (love you Winnie and Deanna!!). The food that’s been delivered for Big J and Little J, and the unexpected “pamper yourself” gifts. Well wishes and prayers from friends I have never met (except online) or met just once or twice. Friends that are going through such major issues themselves, but took the time to think of me today and ask how I was. It means the world. Thank you all so much!!
Now I am going to try and get some sleep. I downloaded Martina McBride’s “Blessed” from iTunes and am laying here listening to it and basking in the warmth of all the good thoughts you have sent my way.
Blessed indeed.
