Upgrade Your Summer

This summer is kind of a big one for my family as Josh is graduating from 8th grade! (I’m still trying to figure out how exactly this happened as I’m pretty sure it was just yesterday that I put him on the bus for his first day of Kindergarten.) Along with graduation comes the inevitable graduation party – preferably in the backyard.

 

Of course, as soon as I start looking around the backyard with a critical eye, all I can see is how much work needs to be done before it is party ready. It would be nice if it would stop raining long enough for the yard to actually dry out for a start. But what else would I wish for? Hmm – let me make a list!

I’d start with some nice patio furniture so our guests would have a place to sit and eat. I’d love to have a TV (with weather protection of course – this IS Wisconsin!) so I could play a slideshow of Josh’s school years. I’d probably want one of those cool outdoor speakers so my guests could hear the music that goes with the slideshow. Our trusty Weber grill is getting a bit on in years, so a new one would be nice as well as cooler to serve some cold beverages. And then some extra cash to grab some food and drinks at Walmart would be icing on the cake!

When it comes to backyard entertaining, we like to keep it pretty simple. For appetizers, we love to pass around some sort of crackers and dips. Our favorite crackers are Blue Diamond Nut-Thins.

 

They are wheat and gluten-free so even our gluten-free friends and family can enjoy them. They are a fun and crispy alternative to traditional crackers and are made with real Blue Diamond almonds. We love dipping them into some Sabra Roasted Red Pepper Hummus.

 

It tastes as good as homemade but saves me the time and trouble of making it! It’s a great dip for crackers or veggies. You can even serve it alongside chicken wings!

Since we have a number of family members who aren’t fans of burgers and dogs, we add SeaPak Budweiser Beer Battered shrimp for the perfect snack addition. They are easy to crisp up in the oven and taste just like your favorite pub treat.

 

 

We love Canada Dry Ginger Ale and their new citrus flavors are light and fresh. The lemonade one is our current obsession here! But if orangeade is more your thing, they have that too. Both are made with real ginger and fruit juice. We love that everything I’ve mentioned is all available at Walmart. (And if you’re like me, you order it ahead and take advantage of their pickup service.)

 

 

I love any excuse to have friends and family over to celebrate, so I’m sure I’ll be throwing multiple parties this summer and putting our patio to good use.

Once the guests have gone, Jay and I love to relax on the patio and enjoy a cold drink. Bud Light has a new Lemon Tea coming out as well that I am excited to try! It’s brewed over tea leaves and real lemon peels which sounds so refreshing.
