Snowman Cake Pops
Last month, LJ celebrated his half birthday. He got to be child of the week, which means he wore a crown, was able to bring in a special snack, and (most importantly I’m told) was allowed to be first in line for the whole week.
He decided he wanted to bring in snowman cake pops. I had made pumpkin cake pops at Halloween, and apparently they were a big hit.
The kicker was that I was fighting some sort of monster cold at the time and was sporting about a 102 degree fever the day I needed to make the cake pops. But, being the doting loving crazy mother than I am, I attempted to make them anyways. (Before you write me nasty emails about how I was spreading disease, let me assure you that I washed my hands about fifty million times AND covered my mouth and nose while making these. I looked like an absolute dork, but everyone stayed healthy.)
I started by baking two white cakes. I used a box mix.
Once they were cool, I crumbled them up and added a container of white frosting to the crumbles. I mixed it up until it was the consistency of Play-doh. (Yes it does look gross at this point!)
I then rolled the doughy substance into balls. Once I had made the cake balls, I put them in the freezer (or if you live in WI in the winter, outside) for about a half hour.
After they were chilled, I stuck a lollypop stick through two cake balls and dipped them in white candy-melt. (If they start falling off of the stick, chill for a bit longer.) I kind of think they look like ghosts, at this point – maybe I’ll make these again at Halloween!
This is the point where I started getting reeeeeally tired. When I started this project, I had great aspirations to dress up these snowmen in the finest of attire. Now, I just wanted to be done and go back to bed. I settled on breaking up some orange candies we had around for their noses, drawing on eyes with an edible marker, and tying fruit roll-up scarves around their little necks. I tried using a few things for hats, but nothing wanted to stick, so I gave up. Next time, I might try black gumdrops.
But this is how they turned out in the end….
LJ loved them, and that’s the most important thing.
If you’re inspired to try making cake pops yourself, I have to recommend Bakerella’s book: Cake Pops: Tips, Tricks, and Recipes for More Than 40 Irresistible Mini Treats
(which is basically the bible of cake pops). While she doesn’t have a recipe for snowmen cake pops, she has one for just about every other creation!! Just looking at her pictures is amazing.

I think they turned out adorable!
