Whether you call it tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce, meat sauce, red sauce, or gravy, pasta and sauce is a staple in most homes. It’s relatively inexpensive, feeds a bunch of people without massive cleanup, and doesn’t leave you hungry. Unfortunately, a great homemade sauce recipe is a well-kept secret by Italian grandmothers, so the rest of us are stuck using that stuff in a jar.
Luckily for you, a few amazing bloggers have each volunteered to share their best homemade tomato sauce recipe with you. Try them out and let us know which one is your favorite!
Mushroom Bolognese – This sauce is mostly made of mushrooms, but it definitely tops the charts for homemade goodness!
Italian Style Tomato Sauce – If you love the convenience of jarred sauce but want the goodness of homemade, this canning recipe is for you. It even sneaks some carrots and celery in there for extra nutritional value.
Seasoned Tomato Sauce – Another canning recipe, so it will take some time to make a batch. However, it is sure to be better than any jarred sauce you’ve ever had, and you’ll have it all winter. If you love garlic and onion you should definitely try it.
Roasted Garlic Tomato Sauce – Roasted garlic, bell peppers, and a little brown sugar for sweetness make this recipe different from many tomato sauce recipes.
Crockpot Italian Sausage Spaghetti Sauce – Many Italian cooks swear by the cooking-for-days method when it comes to “Sunday Gravy”. This recipe simplifies that and cooks for only 3 hours in the crockpot. Throw it in and by the time you get back from picking the kids up from school it’s done!
Copycat Olive Garden Spaghetti Sauce – This one does use a small jar of Ragu, but it adds plenty of fresh ingredients as well, and one CRAZY one. Wait till you see it!
Slow Cooker Fresh Tomato Sauce – Another fun slow cooker recipe. Throw it all in and puree it with a hand blender 8 hours later. Who doesn’t love to come home from work to the smell of spaghetti sauce?
Homemade Pasta Sauce – This one is pretty simple and only uses 7 ingredients. If you have a picky eater on your hands or if you are just looking for something simple, this is the recipe for you.
Remember, a good sauce isn’t just for spaghetti. It can be used on any type of pasta and in all sorts of dishes from spaghetti to manicotti to baked ziti. You can even pour it over spaghetti squash to make it more nutritious.
Happy Spaghetti Night!
