Control Your Garage Door with Your Voice!

This post is sponsored by Chamberlain. I was paid for this post and received the included Home Bridge as compensation.

I recently told you all about how we are making over our garage into a space that is comfortable, useful, and more organized. One of the changes we made was switching out our older garage door opener for a newer one equipped withMyQ®. As part of a paid partnership with Chamberlain, I am excited to tell you how you also can get some really cool features for your own Chamberlain or LiftMaster garage door opener by adding on the MyQ® Home Bridge.

If you already have a Chamberlain or Liftmaster-branded MyQ® Garage device, you know how convenient it is to be able to control your garage door from your smartphone. We’ve used this feature to check and see if we closed the garage door before leaving (saving us from having to drive back and check) as well as letting people into the garage when we are away such as repair men and the cleaning service. I’ve even been known to grab my phone and see if the door is up or down before going to sleep to avoid having to get out of bed and check.

Now, with MyQ® Home Bridge, you don’t even have to take the step of opening up the app. If you have an iPhone, this device is compatible with Apple HomeKit™ Siri®Voice Control so that you can control your garage door and MyQ® lights with just your voice!* Or you can use the HomeKit™features to set up a location rule such as “Put up the garage door when I arrive home” or “Close garage door at bedtime).  The MyQ® Home Bridge requires that your existing garage door opener already support MyQ® wireless connectivity through one of three methods: built-in MyQ® Wi-Fi support within the opener, a non-smart garage door opener linked to a MyQ® Garage hub, or add-on Wi-Fi connectivity for a MyQ®-enabled opener using a MyQ® Internet Gateway.

You can even use the MyQ® Home Bridge to create a trigger that involves all of your MyQ® enabled devices and Apple HomeKit™. For example, you could create an “away” scenario where whenever you close the garage door shuts, the lights are also turned off.  Now, there can be safety concerns about operating a garage door remotely but I feel like this is addressed pretty well. There is a feature that emits a loud beep as well as a flashing light just before and while the garage door is being lowered. This serves to warn anyone in the area that movement is about to take place.

*Opening via  Siri® voice control requires extra security verification step (passcode or fingerprint). Controlling this Apple HomeKit™-enabled accessory automatically and away from home requires an Apple TV with tvOS or later or an iPad with OS X or later set up as a home hub.You also have the ability to connect your garage door opener to IFTTT and/or the Google Home Assistant, if those are platforms you use.

Check out all the possibilities here!!

By the way – if you’re interested in saving money (and who isn’t???) you’ll want to act quickly. From November 20th-December 14th, you can use the promo code “Holiday17” to snag free shipping on allMyQ® accessories on Chamberlain.com. The price of the Home Bridge will be going up on December 1st when the introductory price expires, so please make a note of that as well.

  1. Oh, I would love this! The baby is always misplacing my garage door opener and I have to search through the car to find it. This would be so much easier.

  2. This is so awesome! When we buy a house, something we definitely want is a garage and I would totally consider getting a device like this to open it and close it.

  3. Love this although I wonder how many voices it would recognize? Would need to make sure our whole family could be on there.

    1. That’s an interesting question – since it works through Siri, I’m thinking each person would have access through their own Siri. On the other hand, my whole family uses Alexa and it doesn’t seem to differentiate between the voices so I wonder how much difference it even makes.

  4. This is such a great device and I bet super handy for when you don’t want to get out of a car! I bet my parents would love this!

  5. My husband was just talking about getting one of these. Thanks for letting me know about the price hike. I’ll be sure to let him know to grab one now before the introductory price is done.
