ARM & HAMMER® Liquid Laundry Detergent Sensitive Skin Plus Skin-Friendly Fresh Scent Review

I’ve mentioned a number of times that LJ suffers from eczema. While it’s not horribly severe, it can flair up enough to cause some substantial discomfort. We do have steroid medication for the more severe episodes, but I like to try and keep it under control without medication as much as possible.

One of the things we noticed can really set an eczema episode off is using the wrong soap either on LJ himself or on his clothes.  For years, I washed his clothes separately in the same (expensive!) detergent I had used when he was a baby.  A few years ago, I was able to switch over the scent and dye-free version of what I typically use for the rest of the clothes.  The problem was that I really LIKE the scent, so I wound up splitting the laundry four ways – adult whites, LJ whites, adult colors, and LJ colors.  That’s four loads instead of two!  And for someone who really doesn’t like to do laundry (despite how much I seem to be discussing it lately!!), that’s not good.

When the folks at ARM & HAMMER® asked if I’d like to try their new sensitive skin formulation, I happily agreed.  The bottle arrived with a bit of a preview dripping from the box.  Oops! The first thing I noticed was the fresh scent.  It wasn’t heavy or overpowering and smelled like clean laundry – just what I like.

But that scent also caused me some concern – I mean, isn’t there a reason why all the sensitive skin formulations are scent free?  Is this going to work for us? The fact that it was ARM & HAMMER® made me feel a little better. We’ve been adding their baking soda to LJ’s bath for years as it seems to really help his skin.  Well, you know me – I put it to the test.

After using it for two weeks, I am happy to report that we have seen no increase in flair-ups.  I love the fresh clean scent, it is doing a bang up job of getting our summer grass and dirt stains out of clothes, and I am just all around pleased with it.

Another thing that I love is that it is compatible with High Efficiency (HE) washer models as I will be getting one very shortly. Nothing worse than finding a product you like and then finding out it won’t work with the washer you have!  Since my new washer will be considerable larger than the one I have, it will be great to be able to combine all of our laundry together and run fewer loads.

To learn more about this product, be sure to connect with ARM & HAMMER® on their website and Facebook page.

Keep in mind that while I like to think I know it all, I actually don’t. Use common sense and have any skin conditions checked out by a doctor and discuss all your treatment and prevention options with him or her.

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Arm & Hammer and received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

  1. I’m definitely going to have to try this out! We always use unscented due to my son & I both having sensitivities- but I miss the yummy smell of clean laundry since mine just smell like nothing.
