Yes, I am a big D.O.R.K.

Little J and I took off Monday for a day at Old World Wisconsin. (Live in WI and never been? You need to check it out before all of the class trips start up in September!)

Anyhoo, we stopped at the Post Office to drop off some packages and, before we left, I hopped in the backseat to help Little J adjust the DVD player and find the section of The Bee Movie where he had left off earlier.

While we were skimming the movie, one other car pulled into the parking lot and decided that she HAD to park in the spot next to me. You know, ’cause there were only like 15 other spots to choose from. She looked very annoyed that I had the car door open and intruding into what was apparently the best parking space in the lot, so I accommodatingly pulled the door closed.

A few minutes later, I found the right spot in the movie and prepared to hop back into the drivers seat. I proceeded to try to open the door. For a few minutes, I was genuinely confused as to why the door wouldn’t open.

Then I remembered – we have the childproof locks enabled on BOTH back doors.

There was not another soul to be seen in the parking lot. I waited a few minutes, thinking someone might come along, but wondered if they would open the door if I banged on it considering you can barely see in (tinted windows) and would probably figure it was a kid having fun (or a fit).

Now, I can fit through the two bucket seats in the front, but that requires unhooking the DVD player I had just spent forever fastening with its ridiculously intricate maze of straps AND finding that same dang spot in the movie. (Side note to Honda: the built in option for the DVD player would be nice in the SUVs. Do only mini-van kids need to watch movies on long trips? Just sayin’)

I reluctantly undid the DVD player and hoisted my ample rump through the two front seats, lost my balance, and landed on the horn. Suddenly, I had five pairs of eyes staring through the windshield to see what was going on. Thanks folks, where were you when I needed to be freed from my CRV prison???

At least the rest of the day was considerably less embarrassing!
