How to Choose the Right Running Shoes for Your Child

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Reebok and Finish Line. I received product samples and a promotional item to thank me for participating.
Now that the temperatures are starting to warm up and the snow is starting to melt, kids everywhere are getting ready for spring sports to begin. In our house that means track. Not being a runner myself, I wanted to make sure that Josh had the right kind of running shoes before sending him out to hit the track. We ventured out to our local Finish Line and looked at what they had to offer.
How to Choose the Right Running Shoes for Your Child
Finding a proper fit is important. If it is your child’s first time buying running shoes, try to have them fitted in person rather than purchasing shoes online. Head into the store at the end of the day as your child’s feet may be slightly larger then.
Make sure that your child is wearing the type of athletic socks s/he will be wearing for their sporting event. Dress socks and athletic socks are very different in thickness and can make a difference in how a shoe fits and feels.
Have your child try on both shoes laced up. Kids love to slide on one shoe and declare that they fit perfectly. To get a real feel for the shoes, a child should put both on, lace them up, and walk or jog a bit around the store in them.
Allow for some “wiggle room” in the shoe. There should be at least a half inch from the end of your child’s longest toe to the tip of the shoe. While the foot should not slide at all in the shoe, it should also not touch the tip of the shoe at all.
Get a good quality shoe. Running shoes are not an item you want to skimp on in an effort to save a few dollars. Cheaper shoes will not hold up to the pounding they get during repeated track practices. We went with the shoes for Josh.

Reebok’s Zig technology is crafted with an innovative lightweight foam forming a fun zig zag shape to provide ultimate support to absorb the force. Josh can feel the difference when he runs in these shoes and finds that his feet do not get as fatigued as quickly. I love that the materials are sturdy enough to last through the entire track season.
The hardest part was choosing which color to get as Josh loved all three. (We settled on red.)

You can find the Reebok Zig Big N’ Fast running shoes at your local Finish Line. If you don’t have a location that is convenient to you, you can always purchase them online at Finishline.com.
