How the Moby Personal Location Security App Can Make Your Life Easier

If you are interested in broadcasting your location to tons of friends and followers, there are an ever increasing number of apps that will let you do just that.  I jokingly tell my husband to check Foursquare if he is not sure where I am.

But what if you want to keep an eye on where the kids are without them announcing it to the whole online world?  There really wasn’t much offered on that front until Moby came along.  Moby was developed by a company called Contigo which specializes in GPS and other location technologies used for safety concerns.

Moby was created in order to offer families access to some of the same location applications that are available to businesses.  How can Moby help your family?

  • Instantly know where your family members are without having to interrupt them with a phone   call or text message
  • Keep coordinated when you’re at the mall, at an amusement park, or on vacation
  • Know if a family member is stuck at the office, running late, or on their way home
  • In case of emergency, family members can instantly alert each other that they need help
  • Keep your privacy protected by knowing that your location is only shared with the people you choose

  • I had the opportunity to give Moby a test run on my iPhone.  (Moby works best between two or more iPhones/smartphones or an iPhone and an iPad.  However, there are ways to use the system without using iPhones, such as enabling the text feature. The Android version is expected to be released later this month.)  I was impressed with how easy it was to set up.  While I love my electronic gadgets, I am not always the most tech-savvy gal when it comes to getting things set up.  Moby was easy enough for me to set up without any stress.

The only downside I found was that (as with most location-based apps), it used more battery power and drained my charge more quickly.  Moby understands that this is an issue and will be issuing a fix for this later this month.

Here’s a great demonstration video that gives you an idea of how Moby works:

I encourage you to spend some time looking around Moby’s website, watching their other videos, and  asking any questions on Twitter or directly to their customer service department.  I think you will find that Moby is a good fit for your family as well!

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Moby and received compensation to thank me for taking the time to participate. Opinions expressed are my own, as always.

    1. I think this is a great app but yes they need to work out the battery consumption portion of it. I have a bit of a double standard mentality here because I believe as parents we don’t need it but I absolutely think my daughter should have it. I will have to look into this app. Sprint offers a similar product at $5 per month but I don’t want to be tied to a carrier. Thanks for pointing this one out because it went under my radar 🙂
